The Bible says ‘teach your child in the right path and when he is older he will not depart from it’ Prov 22:6. I am proud to say my mother always taught us the right path. When I was younger I was always involved in the church even without being told or asked to. I was in the choir, took believers class, I started the teenage bulletin…and a couple other things I got involved in. This bulletin had a weekly bible scripture and passage, puzzles, the hymn to be sang during the service, menu of the week. I took the responsibility upon myself to ensure that that everything for the bulletin was put together and copies were printed out and folded before Sunday service. I loved doing it. Oooooo what I loved doing the most was preaching in teenage church and also as a teenager standing on the pulpit in adult church during Children/Teenage week and saying the prayer or introducing the next agenda for the day…O those days!!… Now Yes My Mom taught me in the right path but even though we are Christians, we are also human..I’ve fallen sometimes along the way….BUT because of the teaching as a child, I always still find my way back. I never really depart from it. Maybe take a few steps away..lol!
As Christians, we need to have other bros and sis in the Lord to help us find our way back when we go astray. I remember sometime…I think about 2 years ago, a particular friend and I would each text each other a bible passage and we both read and then text each other what we understood from the reading. Today I have a friend who daily sends me daily devotions…You can read some at http://www.rccgna.org/openheavens/. And my mother? She has never stopped. I enjoy our weekly prayers.
Do you have people around you that will guide you rather than judge you when you take the wrong turn, go astray, backslide? One of Donnie McClurkin’s songs says “We fall down but we get up’ We can’t walk this path of righteousness alone…especially in a world filled with many temptations. We need God to give us strength, we need others to help us up when we fall…Do you have such people in your lives?
BTW if you wondering what church I’ve been talking about this whole time, it is The Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Stay Blessed!
